“P.S. – I MADE THIS” THE BOOK

P.S. I Made This - Book

Remember when I posted about the cool DIY website P.S. – I Made This? Erica Domesek, the creator, now published a book of the same name.

The book includes 25+ DIY projects inspired by popular fashion trends and runway looks that readers can create on their own.  Just like the site, each project includes an inspiration collage, written instructions and colorful photos to illustrate them. Among these projects are chunky necklaces, earrings, bracelets, headbands and much more.

Check out excerpts from the book P.S. – I Made This.

Kate Moss looks like she stepped out of another era in this glamorous editorial shot by Mario Testino for Vogue UK August 2011’s issue. Styled by Lucinda Chambers, the images are demure, dramatic and dazzling.

I like everything about it – the hair, makeup, styling, outfits, accessories (sigh)..

How pretty (and very high end) does the H&M Conscious Collection Fall 2011 Lookbook look?

Last Spring, Natasha Poly starred in the ad campaign, and this fall Frida Gustavsson and Caroline Brasch Nielsen model the environmentally friendly collection.

I’m loving the lace-like cutout dress and skirts and the beautiful flower print dresses (and matching flower print platforms)!

The stunning Sophie Vlaming looks sleek and styled in Marie Claire Italia’s May 2011 issue. Photographed by Taki Bibelas and styled by fashion editor Laura Seganti, Sophie is dressed in the SS11 runway’s biggest trends and “it” items. I’m L-O-V-I-N-G the shoes and lusting over that white lace/dantelle look!

I love how she’s photographed through the windshield, creating a dreamy effect, and with intentionally added glares emanating from the car’s windows. Speaking of glares, isn’t the model’s stare just hypnotizing? Gorgeous eyes!

THE FLAVOUR THESAURUS

The Flavor Thesaurus

The Flavour Thesaurus by Niki Segnit is basically a thesaurus (it follows the form of Roget’s College Thesaurus) about food flavors. It describes and suggests what flavors go together, and what pairings work best – from classic pairings to unusual ones.

From the reviews I’ve read, it looks like it’s quite interesting and very useful – and can actually inspire you to use leftover foods in unusual yet tasty combinations.

It lists 99 popular ingredients, and suggests both classic and lesser known flavor parings for each ingredient. The book is organized into 16 flavor themes and has 200 recipes, and 980 flavor entries in total.

You can find classic pairings like cucumber & dill; contemporary ones like chocolate & chili, and unusual ones like blueberry & mushroom!

DIY: DIP DYE VASES

Dip Dye Vase

Dip Dye Vase

When I came across this easy DIY project, I knew I had to share it with you guys. This is an easy and inexpensive way to add color and décor to your rooms (or table settings).

All you’ll need are paper cups, and store-bought dye to make these beautiful Dip Dye Vases. The ones used in the project were made from natural plant materials (bonus!) like beets and dahlias.

You can use any assortment of flowers to fill the cups with. I like how they look rustic and organic. Just remember to weigh down the paper cups with pebbles or stones because they’re so light!

THE MAKERS

The Makers

The Makers

The Makers

The Makers is an inspiring photo project by Brooklyn resident Jennifer Causey. In it she documents and shares photographs of the creative, hard working people in her city. She makes everything seem like an art. And in fact, it actually is.

You’ll find candy makers, chocolate makers, ceramicists, jewelry makers, perfumers and fashion designers.

In this hectic, industrialized modern world, I am constantly seeking handmade and artisan-produced products. I love discovering people who embrace a more tactile way of living, so I decided to start photographing them. When my project began, I knew I was photographing people who make things, but I soon realized I was also photographing people who make things happen.

Just a friendly reminder that you can find me on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. We can be in contact almost all the time (unless I’m sleeping). Social networks like these show me how the world is such a small place. But it also shows me how the world is such an amazing place too!

So, are you social? And what social networks do you use frequently?

TREND: DENIM DRESSES

image

I think the only way you can look stylish in a denim dress, is if you wear it this way. A far cry from the 90’s outfits we used to sport back way back when.

LOVE THIS LOOK: THE DRESS + SHOES

Kourtney via Monica Rose

I don’t think I’ve ever featured a Kardashian on my blog before, but that’s because I’ve had any reason to do so. Even though they’re all dressed by the same stylist – Monica Rose – I’ve always loved Kourtney’s looks more. There’s always a twist in her outfit.

The shoes are NOT something I’d ever wear, but I just loved the entire look on Kourtney.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALYA!

My Birthday

Once again, I have reached the point of no return. The day that marks the blessed occasion of my birth. I would be happier, if I was getting younger (like Benjamin Button), but alas that is not the case.

All jokes aside, I thought I would be devastated this year, since I’m officially not in my early twenties anymore (nor am I in my mid twenties). But it’s actually not so bad! I’ve had two surprise pre-birthdays so far, I took a dress to my seamstress because I dropped a size (wohooow!) and I looked in the mirror today and realized I don’t look a day older than I did two years ago (bonus)!

This past year, I’ve been through ups and downs. I lost my beloved grandmother, I turned a hobby into a career, I’ve been stressed and I’ve been blessed, but I’m still standing!

(Photo taken by me, last year, on my birthday. It was a delicious cake, by the way!)

LOVE THIS LOOK: THE HEADBAND

The hairband - Karlas Closet

I have to admit that the main reason I love this look is because of the headband. Even though Karla pulls off the jeans-and-white-tank-look perfectly, it’s that scarf tied around her head that’s making me love it all.

TREND: CAT EYE SUNGLASSES

Sabre Cat Eye SunglassesSabre Cat Eye Sunglasses

Sabre Cat Eye Sunglasses

I’ve seen cat eye sunglasses everywhere this season – from Rayban to Elizabeth and James. These ones by Sabre are just what the “doctor ordered”! I’m mostly drawn to the black (naturally) and the tortoiseshell ones.
