THE WOLFMAN

The Wolfman

My sister and I went to see The Wolfman yesterday. Anything that involves heroic creatures with super powers and/or magic powers (think Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Harry Potter, X-Men, etc, etc). Nobody else wanted to join us because they don’t trust our taste in movies. Well, at least we had fun.

Set in the late 1800’s in the English countryside, The Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro as Lawrence Talbot, an English nobleman who lives in America. After years of living abroad, he receives a letter from his brother’s fiancĂ©e Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), asking him to return home to help find his missing brother. When Lawrence returns home, he is reunited with his estranged father Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins) who is a strange and quirky character. Lawrence’s arrival is too late, as his brother’s body is found brutally murdered by something too unbelievable to be a human. This reignites the villagers’ old fear that a beast believed to be a werewolf, roams the woods when the moon is full.

Lawrence and other villagers decide to search for and kill the beast, while an investigator from Scotland Yard is sent to the estate to learn more about the killing. The events that happen from there on surprise everyone, none more so than Lawrence himself.

The effects were excellent and you get engrossed in the action sequences (there was a main one especially that was super cool). The wolf was amazingly scary and so realistic. The cinematography was brilliant and reinforced the spooky vibe. I swear in a couple of scenes, I literally jumped out of my seat. A word of warning: there was A LOT of blood and gore. Expect to see torn flesh, gushing blood, ripped guts and other pieces of human organs that I couldn’t identify.

Although the movie was enjoyable and entertaining, it was a bit too ‘fast’. Some scenes were so quick, and I felt they should have been stretched out more. There was also a lack of dialogue between the characters especially between Emily Blunt’s character and Benicio’s. They had great chemistry on screen and they could have used more of that in the movie.

FARMVILLE

Farmville 1

Apologies for the sudden week-long absence. I have neglected my blog this past week for 2 reasons.

1. Personal reasons (very busy with a friend’s health problems). It is quite a terrifying and somewhat painful ordeal which we’re slowly coming to terms with.

2. The above mentioned game. It is addictive! And unbelievably time consuming. It is also the number one reason I’m on Facebook all the time!

During such a sad moments in one’s life, a good old fashioned “game” is the perfect medicine to uplift someone’s mood. It’s keeping me busy from unhappy thoughts. The only things I think of during “farming” are my crops, my animals and my farm.

LEE ALEXANDER McQUEEN 1969-2010

Alexander Mcqueen

Several hours ago, I learned about the tragic death of British fashion designer extraordinaire Alexander McQueen. Tragic doesn’t even begin to sum up the words to describe this incident.

I know that by now you have probably read so many posts and articles exclaiming how shocking the news is and how brilliant he was. I’m no different, by the way. I’m so sad that the world has lost this amazing designer who was utterly brilliant in his creations. It’s so sad that he left us at his prime (both youth and career).

Whatever the speculations, we will never know the exact details. Nevertheless, the subject of depression has been brought up, and I’d like to take a moment to talk about this. I know many people who have suffered (or still suffer) from bouts of depression. This is NOT an easy thing to suffer from. It is terribly painful, and horribly lonely and desolate. People who suffer from depression, whatever the case may be, most often feel like they’re trapped in a dark and lonely place where no one can help them.

A lot of them feel like the only release is through death. But that is most definitely not true. Please, please, please, if you or anyone you know suffer from any form of depression, please seek help immediately. A lot of them suffer silently, so be on the lookout for signs and changes in behaviour. Like any physical illness, depression can be treated. I guarantee it.

Life is beautiful. And even though sometimes it doesn’t seem that way, it really is.

I wish Alexander McQueen, and everyone who suffered silently, the peace they always longed for.

May they rest in peace.

VINTAGE BROOCHE BOUQUET

vintage brooche bouquet - this is glamorous vintage brooche bouquet - this is glamorous 2

I bet 99% of the brides out there have never thought of this idea for a bouquet. This is a bouquet that is guaranteed not to die. To create it, you mix a number of different vintage brooches and attach them to some “stems”. You can create your bouquet using any color scheme. It’s so affordable and so innovative (and everlasting, of course).

I’m a classic girl, I prefer the floral kind. But this idea is still pretty cool. What do you think?

KAGE

KAGE 7

Designed by the uber-stylish Basma Abu Ghazaleh and Arwa AbdelHadi, KAGE is a hot hot hot pret-a-porter collection of stylish and modern silhouettes using a mixture of both classic and unpredictable fabrics. For their AW 09 collection, the designers created unbelievably cute dresses using classic materials like velvet, corduroy, and lace. They also used fabrics in shades like midnight blue, dark green and maroon, but gave them a twist by blending in studs, frills and vibrant colors like electric blue and hot pink.

KAGE captured my attention with amazing party dresses and “dressed-up casual” outfits that will set you apart in a crowd. If you wear one of their items, you won’t need to accessorize it anything else. Except for maybe a pair of hot heels.
